Steel Water Tanks

Steel water tanks are cylindrical water storage containers made from galvanized steel sheets bolted or welded together. Steel water tanks frequently feature an ANSI/NSF 61 certified internal liner made from FDA approved plastic safe for drinking water. However, this will depend on the tank manufacturer and can often be reserved for larger volume tanks.
A steel water tank is an excellent choice for long term, permanent installations as they can provide a lifetime of service.
Steel water tanks are frequently used in rainwater collection, groundwater, well water storage and provision, managing storm waters, business and agriculture operations, as well as fire suppression and response applications. For customization and additional options, steel water tanks tend to outrank other water tank types.

Tank Type | Volume Range | Dimension Range | Price Range |
Steel Tanks | 20,000 Gallons – 100,000 Gallons | 216”D x 193”H up to 504”D x 277”H | $19,000 – $76,320 |

Underground Water Tanks (Cisterns)

Underground water tanks are polyethylene water tanks built with a specified structural engineering that certifies the tank for below ground installation and use. Also known as cisterns, underground water tanks are often long and wide, rather than tall.
Cisterns are approved per FDA, ANSI, and NSF requirements for use with drinking water. An underground water tank offers protective benefits against sunlight exposure, accidental impacts, algal growth, pest infestation, and fluctuating water temperatures.

Tank Type | Volume Range | Dimension Range | Price Range |
Underground Tanks (Cisterns) | 250 Gallons – 20,000 Gallons | 47”L x 47”W x 56”H up to 665”L x 101”W x 107”H | $590 – $54,600 |

Rainwater Tanks

Rainwater tanks are aboveground, vertical water tanks made from polyethylene plastic. Rain tanks are often cylindrical in shape, but slimline rainwater tanks are also available with a rectangular profile. Rainwater harvesting tanks are most often ANSI/NSF 61 certified potable grade water containers.
Rain tank color options include black, green, brown, and red. The darker tank colors improve resistance to algae growth compared to lighter tank color options. Rainwater harvesting tanks are used to supplement and contribute to a water supply, and in some applications, serve as the primary water source.

Tank Type | Volume Range | Dimension Range | Price Range |
Rainwater Tanks | 100 Gallons – 10000 Gallons | 30”D x 42”H up to 140”D x 162”H | $380 – $13,000 |

Utility Tanks

Utility tanks are polyethylene water tanks manufactured in various shapes and/or size dimensions to best suit a wide range of applications, locations and transport options. The utility tank is also known as a portable tank, mobile detail tank, pressure wash tank, and sprayer tank. Utility tanks are made using rotational mold fabrication with virgin high density polyethylene plastic to produce a free-standing, flat bottom water tank that is often square or rectangular in shape.
Utility water tanks are made in either potable or non potable grade. Potable grade utility tanks are more commonly available for purchase. Utility tanks are white in color, with yellow or blue sometimes available. Yellow water tanks are non potable grade and often used in agricultural applications. The wide range of sizes and volume options for utility tanks allows selection of the best fitting tank for transport within a truck bed, trailer, tractor, ATV or UTV.

Tank Type | Volume Range | Dimension Range | Price Range |
Utility Tanks | 5 Gallons – 1000 Gallons | 14”L x 9”W x 18”H up to 96”L x 60”W x 48”H | $70 – $2264 |

Leg Tanks

Leg water tanks are horizontal shaped storage tanks. They are effectively a vertical water tank designed to be installed and transported on its side. Leg tanks are supported by legs molded into the tank plastic or by a cradle that holds and stabilizes the tank by providing a rest platform. Leg tanks are also known as baffle tanks, cradle tanks, horizontal leg tanks and elliptical leg tanks.
Leg tanks are made in both food grade for drinking water or non food grade quality for agricultural, roadway, and construction applications. They are available in black, white, blue, green and sometimes yellow colors. The leg style water tank is a popular option for water transport due to their range of available gallon volume capacities as well as their engineering that promotes portability, stability, reusability and water access.

Emergency Water Tanks

Emergency water tanks are vertical containers dedicated to storing water reserves for emergency, disaster and survival type situations. They are manufactured in a set volume range to improve the tank’s movability, ease of placement, and allow installation inside a property or structure. Emergency water tanks are often kept within garages, sheds or barns in residential homes, on rural properties and farms.
Emergency water tanks often feature spigot type, garden hose style valves and a secondary outlet positioned higher on the tank to make water access easy for the filling of other containers, buckets, pots, bottles, etc.
The emergency water tank is intended to store water safe for human consumption and is therefore manufactured from high quality FDA food grade polyethylene certified for potable water. This tank type is often freshwater blue in color as an indicator of a safe, drinking water source, to promote water storage life, and inhibit algae growth.

Tank Type | Volume Range | Dimension Range | Price Range |
Emergency Tanks | 100 Gallons – 500 Gallons | 30”D x 42”H up to 48”D x 73”H | $380 – $1340 |
